IT is a polluting process. While businesses rely heavily on IT, its use is rapidly increasing in our personal lives as well. By making informed decisions, you can contribute meaningfully to solving the climate crisis, and the opportunities to do so are plenty.
Green IT shows how you, as a manager, can influence IT consumption and usage with a focus on environmental sustainability, using a clear and practical step-by-step approach. The book explores multiple levels of impact, from user behavior and equipment choices to data center selection and energy providers.
It blends solid theoretical foundations with hands-on case studies from Dutch organizations such as AFAS, Lenovo, TNO, University of Groningen, and ABN AMRO, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how these institutions approach sustainable IT.
The strength of this book lies in its mix of context and concreteness. A structured model provides the tools you need to effectively implement sustainable IT practices in your organization.
